The Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC) is the first congregation founded in Northeast India for indigenous sisters. It was established on October 24, 1942, in Guwahati, Assam, by the then Bishop of Shillong, Stephen Ferrando, SDB. Since 1977, the congregation has been an institute of pontifical right.

Today, in the true spirit of their founder, the sisters devote themselves primarily to missionary apostolate. Their responsibilities are wide-ranging and focus especially on serving the poor and marginalized. In particular, the sisters are committed to supporting families. They also stand by women and girls affected by violence and provide education in village schools, boarding schools, as well as in health care and vocational training centers.

Furthermore, the sisters serve wholeheartedly in orphanages, homes for the elderly and people with disabilities, and in programs supporting vulnerable youth. Through mobile clinics, they also provide medical assistance to sick people in rural areas of especially needy countries.
